The Constantia Valley is truly Cape Town’s Vineyard
The oldest wine-making region in the southern hemisphere, dating back to 1685, Constantia Valley is today the Cape’s most intimate wine route consisting of eight wine farms, each with their own distinctive heritage and premium wines.
Enjoyed by Napoleon Bonaparte and royalty in the 18th century, Constantia Valley’s unique combination of terroir and climate produces some of the world’s finest wines that continue to this day to win accolades and international awards for consistently high standard and quality.
Constantia Uitsig
Constantia Uitsig (meaning "Constantia View") is situated in the historic Constantia Valley where wine farming originated in South Africa. A mere 20 minutes drive from the centre of Cape Town, this beautiful valley is blessed with moderate temperatures, excellent soils, good rainfall and cooling sea breezes from two close-by oceans.
David and Marlene McCay bought the farm in 1988 and restored to its former glory. Wine farming has been revived after careful research and planning by the then Wine Director, Andre Rousseau who joined Constantia Uitsig in 1997, first as viticulturist, and from 2003 he took on the complete scientific process ‘from soil to glass’, growing the wine grapes, making the wine, as well as preparing the wine for marketing, consistently producing highly rated, premium quality fine wines. He says: ‘My motivation is never to become complacent but to produce wines with pride and passion. We continuously strive to excel in what we do, for Constantia Uitsig to remain a distinguished, respected brand, and will continue this tradition with the release of our first MCC in November 2007.’
With 30 hectares under cultivation, the farm produces award winning wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Bordeaux White Blend, Bordeaux Red Blend, Red Blend andthe MCC which is due to be relased in Novemebr 2007.
Constantia Uitsig Wine Estate is also home to the gracious Constantia Uitsig Country Hotel, three top class, award- winning restaurants, The Wine Shop and the newly completed Spa.

La Colombe
Luke Dale-Roberts was appointed executive chef of this award-winning restaurant in November 2006. La Colombe was voted Best Restaurant in Africa and the Middle East and 28th Best Restaurant in the World in 2006 by UK Restaurant Magazine. It didn’t take long for the word to spread that a serious new chef was in town, building on the reputation for excellence and innovation. Luke continues La Colombe’s proud tradition, and has taken it to the next level, serving Classic and Modern French Cuisine with touches of Asia. Tanda Tula Safari Camp
