Alison's Flowers

Alison’s Flowers has been established since 1950 – and now with new owner Lisa Korver it is about to re‐invent itself.

Flowers are about to become the ultimate accessory; and rather than a backdrop to an environment, they should stand a‐pose and be the striking features that they indeed are!

Lisa Korver, who comes from a background of design says, “I want Alison’s to have a European twist; to be contemporary and a design piece as opposed to the old fashioned ideal of what some have regarding flower arrangements. We have introduced to Alison’s three new arrangements; Country, Classic and Contemporary.”

Alison’s is in Little Chelsea in Wynberg; and within the building there will also be the established restaurant, Dutch run by well‐known and successful restaurant owner Stephan Van de Ven, as well as a Kiids Boutique, “I want it to be an experience of buying flowers, of eating of perusing, for me I would like it to be a point of meeting – the place you come to catch up; to feel safe, a special environment, a special meeting place– it should not be rushed; but a beautiful feeling of buying something that is so naturally striking. If you want your flowers hand tied, fixed arrangement or in a vase container – we can assist!” With the restaurant and the children’s boutique all under one roof, Lisa continues, “for me, I associate flowers with lethargic days out in the garden, flowers to me mean relaxing; and so whilst we do your arrangements, sit and have a coffee!”

Established florist Dagmar Grimmelikhuysen will be managing Alison’s and the flower arrangements. Trained in Holland and having had her own florist MoKo based in Gardens, she is the perfect choice, Dagmar says, “Holland is the place of flowers, what better place to learn ‐ I am excited about putting our signature style stamp on to Alison’s and getting everyone inspired again.”

For those who want to learn more about floristry and flower arrangements there will be flower workshops held at Alison’s, “This I feel is missing in Cape Town – there is nowhere for people to learn about flower arrangements, and with our experts we want to change this,” says Dagmar, “we would like to have day workshops where we work aside Dutch restaurant, and incorporate into these workshops, delicious lunches.” Alison’s will cater for any event big or small; from weekly corporate flower arrangements (contracts), weddings, birthdays, new born arrivals – children’s birthdays to 50 year wedding anniversaries – Alison’s will be on hand to do arrangements. Flowers can be delivered anywhere in South Africa and abroad, and Alison’s are a member of Interflora “People have this perception that flowers can only be delivered to the area in which the florist is situated, this is completely false with Alison’s – wherever you are, we can deliver – simple!”
