Published: 18 Sep 2009
Along with sous chef James Preyser, Luke will join a list of top celebrity chefs at the 10th Annual World Gourmet Festival from 5 to 11 October, 2009, in Bangkok. Each chef invited to the eminent occasion will host two gastronomic evenings in the city’s luxury Four Seasons Hotel and attend the seven-course Gala Dinner on Friday, 9 October. Visitors will witness Luke’s extraordinary talents during his cooking demonstration and will observe the award-winning flair that has elevated La Colombe’s world profile.
Besides Luke and his colleague, this prominent annual culinary extravaganza will be attended by some of the globe’s best chefs, including Graham Elliot Bowles of Chicago’s Graham Elliot Restaurant, Paolo Carosella of San Paolo, New York’s Michael Ginor, David Kinch of California’s Manresa restaurant, Christine Manfield of Australia’s Universal Restaurant, Francois Payard of Payard New York, Kakumi Sawada of Toyko, Fulvio Siccardi from Italy and London’s David Thompson.
Luke is enthusiastic about sharing flavours and style with accomplished chefs from around the world. With his sous chef Scot Kirton, he will then travel on to Seoul as a guest foreign chef at the 2009 Amazing Korean Table hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korean Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. This exciting new food and culture experience will see star chefs converge in Seoul to share their countries’ taste trends, experience Korean cooking and learn about the traditional Royal cuisine of the Joseaon Dynasty.
‘’I am excited to visit Asia again, particularly Seoul as I spent three years there working on various projects. This is a great chance for us to showcase what world-class dishes we have in South Africa as well as learn how Korean cuisine has evolved over the past few years. It is not often that one has the opportunity to stand alongside the world’s best chefs and I am humbled to be a part of this amazing experience.’’
From 29 October to 1 November, the Amazing Korean Table will host some of the World’s top-ranking chefs such as Pierre Gagnaire of France, Massimo Bottura of Italy, Corey Lee of California’s French Laundry restaurant as well as Korean chefs Jong-Mi Lee, Bok-Ryeo Han, Jao-Ok Lee, Kyung-Shik Park, Young-Hee Noh and Jung-Jin Youn. Korean cuisine of the past and future will be showcased on the Han River’s Media Art Island and at Seoul’s exclusive Lotte Hotel. Attendees will include international cuisine experts and opinion makers, as well as dignitaries. Luke is again excited about stretching his and his team’s abilities and channelling them using Korean ingredients and cooking techniques.
Luke expertly incorporates ingredients and flavours from around the globe in his exceptional menus and visitors to La Colombe will experience continued epicurean bliss on his return from these two headline events. ‘’What is also exciting is that I will bring back new influences and elements to apply to the La Colombe menu. My mantra has always been ‘taste, taste, taste’ and I strive to give my guests a dish that is understandable and has bold flavours.’’
La Colombe was recently included at number 38 in the World’s top 50 Best Restaurants and achieved the highest three star rating in the 2009 issue of the acclaimed Rossouw’s Restaurants guide. Innovation is clearly an ongoing journey.
