Steenberg
Vineyards Bistro Sixteen 82 vineyard
breakfasts

Kick-start your day with a vineyard
breakfast at Bistro Sixteen82
With its picture book setting, Bistro
Sixteen82 offers what is surely one of Cape
Town’s most spectacular dining locales.
Breakfast is a relaxing affair at this
sophisticated, yet informal dining venue set
amidst the Steenberg Vineyards in the lush
Constantia Valley. The tranquil interior and
terraced dining area are equally conducive
to brisk business ‘power breakfasts’,
intimate breakfast outings with friends or
family, or celebratory champagne breakfast
gatherings complete with a delicious glass
of Steenberg Cap Classique: the popular 1682
Chardonnay Brut or the newly launched 1682
Pinot Noir Brut with its unique pink salmon
colour.
|
 |
Chef Brad Ball’s compact seasonal
Breakfast Menu selection is topped
only by the magnificent vistas, and
reflects the eclectic taste of Cape
Town’s trendy jetset, while offering
plentiful portions to please all
tastes.
Authentic breakfast menu
items range from fruity fare such as
Fresh Hillcrest summer berries
with honey comb yoghurt and toasted
almonds, and not-so-traditional
Bacon & Eggs (cured pork belly
and perfectly scrambled eggs),
to Eggs Royale (smoked
Franschhoek trout on potato bread
with poached eggs and hollandaise
sauce), Soufflé omelette with
asparagus, basil, cherry tomatoes
and toasted ciabatta, and the
most perfect vegetarian beakfast
dish ever: Shitake, Portobello
and King oyster mushrooms with
buttered spinach and salmarigli.
A charming and generous touch to the
breakfast experience is a serving of
freshly baked Brioche which
magically arrives at the table,
while one is selecting from the
menu, served with lashings of butter
and melt-in-the-mouth honey, with
compliments from the Chef. |
Breakfast is served from 09:00 and extending
until 11:30 for those who wish to while away
the morning over a long, leisurely Brunch.
Ample secure parking is available. Bookings:

La Colombe - taking on new Asian influences

Not content to rest on his laurels, La
Colombe’s Luke Dale-Roberts recently
travelled to Bangkok and Seoul to enchant
diners with his world-class culinary talents
and harvest the best of Asian cuisine for
his guests back home in South Africa.
Luke first joined a list of top celebrity
chefs at the 10th Annual World Gourmet
Festival which took place in Bangkok from 5
to 11 October, 2009. Here, visitors
witnessed Luke’s extraordinary talents
during his cooking demonstration and
observed the award-winning flair that has
elevated La Colombe’s world profile.
This prominent annual
culinary extravaganza was attended by some
of the globe’s best chefs, including Graham
Elliot Bowles of Chicago’s’ Graham Elliot
Restaurant, Paolo Carosella of San Paolo,
New York’s Michael Ginor, David Kinch of
California’s Manresa restaurant, Christine
Manfield of Australia’s Universal
Restaurant, Francois Payard of Payard New
York, Kakumi Sawada of Tokyo, Fulvio
Siccardi from Italy and London’s David
Thompson.

Luke has always been
enthusiastic about sharing his flavours and
style with accomplished chefs from around
the world. After Bangkok he travelled onto
Seoul, South Korea, as a guest foreign chef
at the 2009 Amazing Korean Table hosted by
the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the
Korean Ministry for Food, Agriculture,
Forestry and Fisheries.
The ingredients and cooking methods favored
by Koreans are recognised as healthy and
diverse, making Korean food an appealing
addition to dinner menus around the world.
Luke was accompanied by World-class chefs
Pierre Gagnaire, Massimo Bottura, Corey
Lee-Roberts and prominent sommelier Andreas
Larsson to create dishes with Korean
ingredients. The event featured a Korean
Slow Food Symposium with inspired creations
from each chef, cooking classes, a culinary
competition and a street buffet.
Luke continually adds Asian elements to the
dishes at La Colombe and diners will
undoubtedly taste the new influences since
his return from Seoul. Comments
Dale-Roberts, ‘’The experience in Seoul was
out of this world. I enjoyed the challenge
of trying out new ingredients and adapting
them to fit within my cuisine. It was very
inspiring and challenging to be within the
same event as those big names and we
(myself, my staff and the Korean team)
pushed ourselves to the limit to produce
something we were are all proud of. I must
say it was great to step back onto South
African soil and I hope to soon bring the
new Asian influences into the La Colombe
menu.’’
La Colombe was recently included at number
38 in the World’s top 50 Best Restaurants
and achieved the highest three star rating
in the 2009 issue of the acclaimed Rossouw’s
Restaurants guide. The restaurant was also
honoured with the prestigious Restaurant of
the Year title in the in the Prudential Eat
Out Awards 2009.
It seems La Colombe is showing no signs of
slowing their success.
La Colombe is open 7 days a week: Lunch
12:30 – 14:30; Dinner 19:30 – 21:30
Closed for dinner on Christmas Day, New
Year’s Day and Sunday evenings in the winter
months

Somoho Tours & Events – Cape Town Stadium and the World Cup

SOMOHO Tours & Events:
For the love of the BOOTiful Game, Cape Town
Stadium and the World Cup
There is some magic in
the air. A sense of great anticipation…
Is it the realisation that the 2010 World
Cup is close by with South Africa as the
Africa Host Nation just about ready and
urging to get the show on the road? Yes,
this was very evident at the Cape Town
Stadium Inaugural Soccer Festival Event on
Saturday 23rd January 2010 where our own
local PSL “giants”, Ajax CT vs. Engen
Santos, the Peoples Team, displayed their
skills in an electrifying atmosphere, a
special and historic moment to endure.
SOMOHO TOURS & EVENTS, with a tour group of
20 special guests attended this showpiece to
celebrate the debut of the Cape Town
Stadium. Included were the competition
winners of the SOMOHO TOURS & EVENTS Cape
Town Stadium Inaugural Soccer Festival Event
Competition.
With great excitement and expectation, the
day of the event unfolded with the tour
group meeting and socialising, having pre-
tour drinks and snacks at a central venue.
At this stage, there was a real buzz as for
some of the guests; it was a Mystery Tour,
having only been told the times and dress
code. Soon, with everyone settled in the
vehicles we were on our way for a day filled
with surprise, overwhelmingly so, and
anticipation of what was in store on this
journey.
Cape Town Stadium was
absolutely beautiful and the pitch in
immaculate condition. The stadium structure,
the lines, the curves, the majestic views of
Table Mountain and Signal Hill and the cool
breeze of the nearby ocean with Robben
Island in view as well. And nearby V&A
Waterfront a stone’s throw away. What a
setting. One soon realises this is it! Cape
Town is definitely a Top 100 ‘must visit’
city in the world.
|
Given the Cape Town Stadium
Inaugural Soccer Festival Event was
the first of future planned events
to test run the ‘machinery’ of a
working stadia together with all
support services, viz. transport,
gate entrance screening, parking,
catering, emergency services, crowd
handling and control etc., just
about everything went smoothly, with
a sense of calmness and relaxation.
With all 20 000 tickets sold out,
the event was successful and the
Cape Town PSL teams, Ajax CT and
Engen Santos, performed well to keep
the crowds on the edge of their
seats, especially when it came down
to a penalty shoot-out. Ajax CT, who
thought they had the cat in the bag,
was soon thwarted by Engen Santos
who won the game on penalties.
What a game, what a memory, what an
experience! We all left the stadium
with a sense of pride and admiration
of this achievement by the City of
Cape Town and its People. |
 |
All in all, for the tour group and
competition winners, it was a FANtastic
experience to be part of this HIStoric,
memorable Cape Town Stadium Inaugural Soccer
Festival Event. The SOMOHO Tours tour group
continued the day out with an arranged
dinner at a nearby restaurant, Pepeneros,
and eventually returned home late the night.
As per SOMOHO TOURS tagline, it was truly a
matter of Explore, Experience, and Enjoy!
As much as the Cape Town Stadium Inaugural
Soccer Festival Event was the City of Cape
Town and the Cape Town Stadium operators,
SAIL STADEFRANCE, first test run to iron out
any hic-cups for the much anticipated
upcoming great event, the 2010 World Cup, so
it was to for SOMOHO TOURS & EVENTS. The
event on the 23rd January 2010 allowed
SOMOHO TOURS to view, experience, prepare,
plan and anticipate for what is to come.
This is to ensure all SOMOHO TOURS & EVENTS
guests are well taken care of and a
memorable experience will be had by all.
The second Cape Town Stadium test run event
occurred on Saturday 6th February 2010 with
a capacity crowd of 40 000 people. As this
was a rugby event, Boland Inv. XV vs.
Vodacom Stormers, the Cape Town Stadium put
on a gleaming, successful show for the rest
of Cape Town.
With the FIFA 2010 World Cup Fourth sales
phase ticketing currently taking place, 9th
February to 7th April 2010 on a first come
first served basis, it is imperative that
you submit your application to purchase your
tickets should you want to attend the games,
if not done so already. The whistle will
blow Game Over! NO MORE TICKETS AVAILABLE.
To all future guests, soccer fans and any
other persons who are interested and wanting
to visit South Africa, especially Cape Town
the MOTHER CITY, you are most welcome to
contact SOMOHO TOURS & EVENTS should you
require assistance with personalised tour
packages including accommodation, airport &
stadium transport and transfers,
sight-seeing day tours, safaris and the
like.

Glen Avon - Green Season Specials
Another year has opened on
worldly destinations and
here in Cape Town, we at
Glen Avon Lodge are looking
forward to a successful year
ahead, with the excitement
of the Soccer World Cup and
the opportunity to showcase
our beautiful country.
With our focus on providing
many added comforts and
services to our 5 star
establishment, we are
pleased to welcome Maike to
assist Wendy on Reception/Waitron
and Larny who has taken
charge of the Housekeeping/Waitron
duties. Our kitchen garden
is still producing luscious
vegetables to serve with our
evening menu’s. The Stringer
family have also recently,
after fourteen years, moved
off the property to just
over the road, where they
have built a new house. They
are nevertheless at the
guesthouse daily and Wendy
still answers all the
e-mails and heads up the
reservations.
Surprisingly we have enjoyed
a successful 2009 showing a
gradual increase in
occupancy year on year.
We would therefore like to
take this opportunity to
thank all our tour operators
for their continued support
throughout these difficult
times. For those operators
who are planning to visit
South Africa for the Durban
Indaba, we look forward to
meeting you on the Good
Cook’s stand (U002) in May.
Please feel free to contact
us if you would like an
