Crush on Constantia

February the 9th the hottest summer day of 2008 thus far was the date the Constantia Valley Association unveiled the annual event that will from now on be known as the Crush on Constantia. Constantia Uitsig hosted the unveiling and by doing so show cased itself as a phenomenal event location. Every guest was in awe of the sheer beauty of what is arguably the most beautiful cricket ground in the country.

Close to 250 guests, including our members, residents and tourists who were lucky to be enjoying a stay in the valley merged to enjoy high tea under the oaks, listen to the magical sounds of the classical clarinet, play a game of croquet or petanque and to taste a variety of wines from Constantia Uitsig, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting, High Constantia, Groot Constantia and Constantia Glen.

But the Crush on Constantia is not only about the wine farms. For the future events the committee of the Constantia Valley Association and the Constantia Wine Route will work alongside our members to develop ways that we can all benefit, take part in and enjoy whilst retaining the sentiment that in Constantia "life is savoured slowly".

Cape Town & Western Cape official Travel Guide

We have negotiated a discounted rate for our members for advertising in this prestigious Travel Guide. In previous years the CVA area has been incorporated with the Southern Suburbs - we have now booked a DOUBLE PAGE to brand as The Constantia Valley - Cape Town's Vineyard. We plan to include the wine route map, restaurants and services so it can become a comprehensive guide of our beautiful Valley - please support us in this venture!

Maureen Watkins will shortly be contacting the members that advertised last year to offer a renewal at our special rate - we will then open bookings to all our members so please contact the office to secure your space.

Proposed Road Closure

As many of you may be aware on 10 March - the day after the Argus Cycle Tour - the rehabilitation of Main Road between Atlantic Road, Muizenburg Clovelly Road, Fish Hoek will start.

This will effectively mean that the "south" as we know it will be no more! Accessibility has been a problem for years and many of us have no doubt experienced the traffic jams on a hot weekend afternoon. For the duration of the work parts of Main Road will become single lane with a "Stop - Go" system in operation. This will impact massively on the traffic and whilst not wanting to capitalise on someone else's misery - what a fantastic opportunity for the Constantia Valley!
