CVA E-Newsletter #1

Welcome from the Chairperson

Dear Constantia Valley Association Member,

Welcome to the first edition of the CVA E-News. This E-News will be sent to you mid-monthly and you are encouraged to submit information you would like included to the email address info@constantiavalley.com no later than the 5th of each month.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that as of the 1st October 2007 Belinda Thom was awarded the contract to run the CVA, as it sets out to grow its membership and services, over this new and exciting phase of its development. Two other people also become part of the CVA team, Jooles Pienaar who will work with Belinda Thom and Kathy Cassells, of Constantia Uitsig. Belinda and Jooles will manage the day to day running of the association, build our membership and interact with our members, so that we all enjoy a mutually rewarding and constructive relationship. Kathy will become an EXCO member and represent the CVA on the BIG SIX. With these changes we see a very bright and determined CVA, going forward and we hope you will join us in making this a very exciting year ahead.

CVA Launch

The launch went off without a hitch and we thank everyone who was involved in making it happen.  We were thrilled to have our members there in full force and we appreciated your questions and enthusiasm.  We trust that you enjoyed the evening, made some useful contacts and remain in regular contact with the CVA.

For those members who collected their brochures straight after the launch thank you. We ask that you put them into circulation as soon as possible. Photos taken on the evening can be viewed on the website.

Spenders Workshop

Constantia Valley Association was asked to address “The Spenders Workshop” held at Greenways Hotel on 25th September.  The workshop, organised by Cape Town Tourism, included presentations from Cape Town magazine (www.capetownmagazine.com), Tourism Radio and the Cavendish Bus.  It was well attended by members of Tourism South and proved to be an excellent opportunity to introduce the CVA to other tourism role players.

Belinda Thom gave a brief overview of the CVA and brochures were handed to everyone present including Cape Town Tourism.

Sincere thanks must be given to Jean Naude, General Manager of Groot Constantia and CVA Exco member, for his generous donation of 12 bottles of Groot Constantia wine.

Glen Avon Lodge

On the 4th October Glen Avon Lodge officially opened three new rooms bringing the total number of rooms available to ten.

We are not sure if you have ever been inside Glen Avon Lodge but if you haven’t, do yourself a favor and take a look.  The grounds are huge and beautifully manicured. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and stocked with everything you could possibly need including an umbrella so that you can still go for a stroll on the nearby greenbelts if it rains. If you decide to stay in for dinner you will be ecstatic by the culinary delights available.

The Stringer family has been at Glen Avon for 12 years and are truly dedicated to the B&B experience.  The family has a hand in all aspects of the lodge right down to the artwork in the rooms which is produced by daughter Wendy.  For more information about Glen Avon Lodge please go to their website at www.glenavon.co.za.

Welcome to Tarragon - the latest member of the CVA

Tarragon Restaurant is the product of 23 years of combined experience on the part of proprietors, David Haupt and Emma Stern

Tarragon’s approach may be expressed as ‘back-to-basics’. Restaurateurs David and Emma have pared away the frills, the foreign terminology, they hype and trendy gimmickry often intended to baffle and intimidate the patron. Rather, Tarragon concentrates purely on exquisite quality of ingredients and focused technique, intended to enhance and reveal the essential character of food.

In keeping with their love of uncomplicated dishes, Tarragon restaurant situated in Tokai's West Lake Lifestyle centre, recently launched a sushi bar.

Previously of Hongs Sushi Restaurant in Claremont, Sushi Chef Jason Wu brings his experience and reputation to add to Chef David Haupt's philosophy of "simplicity and flavour".

Benefiting from CVA

As was discussed at our Launch the only way we can all benefit from being Members of the Constantia Valley Association community is to work together in building it.  We would appreciate it if you could talk to other people you know in the Constantia Valley area and encourage them to join by either asking them to contact us so that we may go and visit them or by giving us their contact details directly.
